What is Soundwork or Sound Healing?

Sound therapy is based on the theory that human cells, organs, and tissues have each a natural resonant frequency which changes when perturbed by illness. Sound workers apply different audible frequencies and combinations of sound waves which can entrain malfunctioning components back to their healthy vibratory state and promote natural healing within the body. A sound practitioner uses various instruments such as Tibetan singing bowls, crystal bowls, tingshaws and drums to create a vibration that travels through the body deep into the tissues and cells creating a harmonious effect.  Other instruments such as tuning forks can be activated and placed directly on the body for more profound effects.  A complete balancing effect is obtained after receiving sound treatment.

Benefits of Soundwork:

• Open up a dialogue with our inner selves that reaches beyond words.
• Allow us to express a range of feelings, images, issues and memories that may lay hidden within.
• Increase imaginative responses to real life challenges.
• Engage our inquisitive or inventive nature, like a child.
• Relieve stress and tension.
• Help us become less self conscious and self-critical and encourage creative freedom.
• Access and deepen our own inner artistry and self-expression.
• Connect us to inner wisdom and compassion.
• Help manage and transform emotional stress during challenging life transitions, loss or grief.

Soundwork can be very beneficial when incorporated with other holistic modalities such as Reiki and chakra balancing.

Balance, stress relief and even pain reduction can be achieved through sound healing work.  Try it out today!

Soundwork originated in the ancient healing modalities of tribal cultures. Music and sound have enabled people of all backgrounds to raise awareness and increase wellness throughout recorded history.

Think of the sound of chalk on a blackboard……the sound of trains braking. These sounds set off a chemical change in your body which gives you a physical reaction. These reactions are not necessarily positive but there are, of course, beneficial sounds too such as music from a harp or softly played piano. The science of quantum physics tells us that everything is made up of vibration: rocks, gases, a heart, grass, etc. Sound is audible vibration. Humans have been using sound for healing for centuries in the form of drumming, chants, bells and gongs, and now, tones. Sound enters our auric fields, our ears, our brain, and then every part of our body. It has the ability to make significant changes in our physiology and emotions.

What is Colour Therapy?

Colour Therapy is the use of colour energy to effect positive change to our well-being. It is available to everyone, whether we realize it or not. It is in the beauty of Mother Nature on a spring day by observing the green buds of the trees and brilliant yellows of the daffodils popping out of the ground. It’s the feeling you get when you walk by your local fruit market and see the bright oranges, reds and greens of the fresh fruits and vegetables and the beautiful pinks, purples and yellows of the spring flowers they have on display. When deciding how to decorate our homes and offices we are involving colour therapy as we choose the colours according to what mood and feeling we want to evoke. Blues and greens are calming and soothing (nature colours) and reds and yellows are stimulating and energizing.

Colour plays a profound role in our life, for everywhere we look we are surrounded in colour. Every waking moment is spent immersed in colour and most of us dream in colour. Simply put, colour is light and we cannot exist without light. Colour sends a particular message to your subconscious and affects your whole being. Just as the sun’s light can be broken down into 7 primary colours so can our bodies reflect the 7 colours through our energy field and chakras. You may have heard the statement: “We are spiritual beings having a human experience”. We are spiritual beings of Light. We are walking, talking bundles of light, producing the same rainbow colours as our sun.

Colour therapy is an ancient form of healing originating in Egypt thousands of years ago. The Egyptians had constructed colour healing temples to provide a sacred place for rejuvenation and restoration. Sunlight was channelled through diagonal tunnels in the walls to shine through coloured gemstones such as rubies or sapphires. A person could lie down in a pool of light and allow the healing energy to shine on them.

In modern times, colour therapy, also referred to as chromatherapy, comes in many different forms and can be used in conjunction with many other holistic modalities. Coloured Light Therapy is the use of a coloured lamp which is directed at the body areas that are imbalanced while the client lies peacefully beneath the lamp. When healing energy is transmitted to the aura via colour waves, the energy travels to the cells, causing changes in the vibrational frequency of the cells. By doing this we are creating a stronger, more balanced aura which in turn creates better health. The term used for this is Colour tonation or ‘giving colour energy to’ and can be created by using different coloured light bulbs or gels placed in front of a lamp.

Another example of colour tonating is when you place an object underneath a coloured light such as drinking water, body lotions or entire room environments. Even just placing a coloured silk over a sunlit window will cause the room to become tonated with that energy.

Colour breathing and visualization, techniques often used in holistic therapies to shift energy, is another way to gain the benefits of colour therapy. By visualizing a particular colour while in a relaxed state and breathing that colour into a particular area of the body will promote positive change to that area. As well as simply visualizing a peaceful scene such as in nature with green grasses and a turquoise blue lake will help bring about healing and balancing of the body, mind and spirit. These are just a few of the ways that Colour energy healing can be used by everyone.

So while you are decorating your Easter eggs this holiday or planting your spring garden, take time to enjoy the colours you have chosen and appreciate the colour energy healing you are receiving.

What is Reiki

Reiki, pronounced ray-key, is a Japanese word that means universal life force energy. Reiki is said to have originated in ancient Tibet thousands of years ago, and was rediscovered in the mid-1800s by Dr. Mikao Usui of Japan. The healing powers and methods of Reiki were once a well-guarded secret. Today, the awareness and practice of this alternative healing method is spreading across the globe.

  • Reiki is a non-invasive hands-on healing technique where energy (also referred to as chi, ki or prana) is channelled through the practitioner’s hands onto the person, animal or object.  The energy goes to the place(s) in the body where it is needed most.  Reiki is a holistic treatment meaning that it treats the ‘whole’ person including the body, mind, emotion and spirit.   The Reiki Usui method of natural healing facilitates and promotes physical, emotional, mental and spiritual balance in a nurturing way by unlocking the inner flow of vital energy and restoring the body’s own inner balance.

Everything around us is made of different energy vibrations.  Throughout the course of our lives, outside influences can cause us to develop a lack of harmony in these subtle energy flows.  When they need attuning, we can use many of the universe’s tools to help us rebalance them.  The Reiki practitioner becomes a conduit for these energies, helping harmonize them and release blockages.  It can work directly in the unconscious parts of the mind/body which contain negative chi-inhibiting thoughts and feelings and eliminate them. As Reiki flows through a sick or unhealthy area, it breaks up and washes away negative thoughts or feelings lodged in the unconscious mind/body, allowing a normal healthy flow of energy to resume.

Reiki provides many benefits and is used to treat chronic and acute physical symptoms as well as emotional and mental distress.

Physical issues that can be helped with Reiki are:

  • Anxiety/Stress

  • Childhood Abuse

  • Trauma

  • Depression

  • Headaches

  • Addiction

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Multiple Sclerosis

  • Injury

  • Cancer

  • Heart Disease

  • AIDS

  • Burns

  • Insomnia

  • Many others

 Overall benefits include:

  • Deep relaxation

  • Emotional balancing

  • Physical healing

  • Pain relief

  • Detoxification

  • Alignment

  • Increased Energy

  • Chakra clearing

  • and more

The actual treatment uses a gentle hands-on technique which is done over clothing.  It can be done either on a massage table or chair.  The hands of the Reiki Practitioner are gently placed in various positions on your body corresponding to the body's energy centres and remain in each position for a few minutes.

It is the same idea when we put our hands on our stomach when it is upset or when we cover a little one’s knee after they hurt it.  Intuitively we know it will feel better by transferring energy to that area.

Reiki is often experienced as a profound state of peaceful relaxation, warmth and well-being.  It has also been known to enhance creativity and develop a deeper self-awareness.

Reiki supports any medical or supplemental healing method.

Simply put, Reiki is like having a massage for your soul.

What could be nicer than that?
